It's a Wonderful Life

Picture
It gets better!
When I was in 7th grade, I wrote and illustrated a story about an ugly caterpillar that turns into a beautiful butterfly. (Hey, I was in 7th grade!)  My teacher told me it was good enough to be published.  I guess the idea stuck.  I've been trying to make the prophecy come true ever since.
A few years later, when I was 16, I met my first boyfriend and later married him.  We've been together ever since.  With a history like that, you can see why I like books that are romantic, fun, and always entertaining.  We have two children, an English teacher (takes after me) and a nurse (takes after husband).  We live outside Boston.

The writing life:

Me, in shock, after winning the Golden Heart Contest.
A lot of people want to know how a writer gets started.  Writing a book seems like such an impossible task.  It seems that way to me too sometimes.  But you can write a page.  Maybe two.  That's how I got started.  After that, there's a lot of putting your butt in a chair and writing and rewriting until you just can't make your story any better.
I began writing books for adults.  When I made the final round of my first contest, my sister asked me if it was a trick to get me to buy something.  I proved her wrong by becoming a published author.
I've won several awards for my writing including The Golden Heart Award and The National Readers' Choice Award.  I love writing books for kids and teens.
